Adult Orthodontics

It’s never too late to get your best smile

Age is not a barrier to orthodontic treatment, especially with the various cosmetic braces available. With healthy gums and bone structure, teeth can be straightened at any age.

Adults are increasingly opting for orthodontic treatment to straighten teeth and improve their smile and dental health.

Benefits of orthodontic treatment as an adult

As an adult undergoing teeth-straightening treatment there
are many possible benefits:

  • Gain greater self-confidence
  • Improve your oral hygiene and protect your gums
  • Improve the position of teeth to enable dental work
  • Increased comfort when biting and chewing
  • Smile more!

Types of adult braces

Here at M-Brace Orthodontics we offer a range of orthodontic treatment methods, from traditional metal fixed braces to the virtually invisible Invisalign® aligners, fixed tooth-coloured braces, and Incoginito Lingual Braces that fit behind your teeth.

Each of these options are suitable for adults who’d like to achieve the straight smile they have always dreamed of. Click below for more information.

What problems do adult patients typically have?

Gappy teeth

Gaps can occur for many reasons such as larger than average jaws or having smaller than average teeth. In some cases, adult teeth don’t come through and this leaves spaces in the mouth.

Sticking out teeth

Another common problem is having a lower jaw which is positioned too far back, making the upper teeth appear to stick out. Upper teeth can also lean forward.

Open bite

Upper and lower teeth not meeting at the front can lead to difficulty biting into foods such as apples. Surprisingly, an open bite is a complex problem to treat and may require jaw surgery.

Deep bite

When your upper teeth close too far over the lower teeth, damage can occur. The lower teeth biting into the back of upper teeth may cause tooth wear and some people have front teeth which lean inwards.

Crossbite

Upper teeth closing behind lower teeth can not only create a wonky smile, it can make eating more challenging because there is no natural bite. Tooth damage or wear to the tips of the teeth can occur.
